Seafret lean into emotion on new single ‘Driftwood’.
Seafret return with new single “Driftwood”, the final preview of their upcoming fourth album Fear of Emotion, and it might be one of the project’s most heartfelt moments yet. Teaming up with British singer-songwriter James Morrison, the Yorkshire duo lean fully into the emotional core of their sound, delivering a track that feels both intimate and cinematic in equal measure.
Originally written as what the band describe as an “end of the world” song, Driftwood reflects on the helplessness that can come from constantly seeing the darker side of the world - suffering, greed and everything in between. Instead of sitting in that weight, the track shifts focus to something more personal, centring on the importance of holding close the people who matter most.
Built around warm acoustic textures and slow-burning production, the song gives space for both Jack Sedman and James Morrison’s vocals to really shine, their voices sitting perfectly alongside each other without losing the rawness that makes Seafret’s music connect in the first place. There’s a quiet nostalgia running through the track too, made even more fitting by the fact Morrison was one of the artists Sedman grew up singing along to long before the band ever existed.
